Common questions about online consultations and medicine delivery

Can I see a doctor without Japanese health insurance?

Yes. Japan Doctor provides self-pay medical services — no Japanese health insurance required. Fees are confirmed after intake and service scope review. If you have overseas travel insurance, we can provide English medical certificates for claims.

Can I consult in English?

Yes. You can submit symptoms, medical history, location, and document needs in English. English-speaking doctor availability depends on schedule and specialty; when needed, medical interpretation or multilingual coordination is used to help the doctor understand the case accurately.

Can medicine be delivered outside Japan?

Yes. We offer international shipping: Mainland China via EMS/DHL takes approximately 7-10 business days; Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, etc.) 10-14 business days; other regions — please contact us. Within Japan, Tokyo's 23 wards offer same-day delivery (before 4:45 PM), and nationwide delivery takes 2-3 business days. Express options are available for an extra fee. Some controlled substances may be subject to customs restrictions at the destination — your doctor will advise you in advance.

Can you prescribe medications?

A prescription may be issued when the doctor determines it is medically appropriate. Our partner doctors hold medical licenses issued by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and are authorized to issue prescriptions. Certain controlled substances cannot be prescribed via telemedicine and require an in-person visit.

What if I need further examination or hospitalization?

If the doctor determines you need in-person examination or hospitalization, the team can explain the referral path and, where available, help arrange an appropriate hospital and communication support.

How is my medical privacy protected?

Medical records and consultation information are handled under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information and relevant medical information security requirements. Access is limited to people involved in intake, medical assessment, pharmacy coordination, documentation, or support. Medical information is not disclosed to unrelated third parties without your consent.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept VISA, Mastercard, JCB, and AMEX credit/debit cards, as well as WeChat Pay, Alipay, and Apple Pay. UnionPay and cash payments are currently not supported.

Can the medical certificate be used for travel insurance claims?

Yes. We provide English-language medical certificates and receipts that meet most international travel insurance claim requirements. We recommend confirming your insurance company's specific requirements before your consultation.
